Avathāra ~ a Sanskrit term for a 'downward flow' or descent. When Divinity descends to lower realms taking upon a gross form, the Power is called an 'Avathāra'.

The manifestation of Adi Guru Dattatreya is unique, without an end. Though He continues His presence on the physical dimension of planet earth, He expresses Himself as per the need of the hour and as per the station in the journey of a sincere seeker. HE also expressed Himself with complete potencies in the forms and names of Sripada Srivallabha, Sri Narasimha Saraswathi, Sri Swami Samartha and Sri Sainath of Shirdi. None of the above expressions ended their avathar, but remain concealed to the physical eyes of the world; and continue to reveal themselves as per the need.

When that Infinite Light took on a form and appeared on earth, for uplifting the souls sleeping in darkness of ignorance - that 'Paramjyothi' Swaroopa chose the Name, ŚrīPāda ŚrīVallabha.

ŚrīPāda ŚrīVallabha is the embodiment of 'undiluted bliss' of the highest order- 'Paramanandam'. That bliss born of the union of Shakthi and Shiva at the 'Sahasrara' (energy centre at the Crown of the energy system/body) - which is beyond the confines of human terms!

The personification of Divine love, love of the highest measure - unconditional and pristine in its nature - incarnated in the Name of ŚrīPāda ŚrīVallabha.

HE is that Infinite Light in whose presence the soul trembles; the mind resigns; and bliss beyond bliss is expereinced by the soul.

Sreepada
Śrīpāda Vallabha

The first complete manifestation of Dattatreya! He incarnated in Pithapuram, the sacred place where the great yagnam, addressed to the 'Light from the core of the Sun', ('Savitru Kathaka Maha Yagnam'),was performed by pious sages in Treta Yuga.

As an answer to that great prayer, Dattatreya descended with HIS complete potencies and chose the Name, ŚrīPāda Vallabha with HIS Feet bearing Divine features, identifying HIM as the Supreme.

He appeared as a Child, conveying HIS sankalp in transforming the collective human awareness, which is in its growth stage. After 16 years, HE chose Kshetra Kuruvapur and presented HIMSELF as a Yati there, conducting HIS Maha Dhurbar, transforming innumerable souls, healing them of their mental and physical afflictions; and largely working in transforming their inner state of being. dullards were graced with wisdom; those in darkness were led to Light.

Śrī Narasimha Saraswathi

HE manifested in the sacred Karanja Nagara. Maharaj further sanctified the banks of Bhima-Amaraja, at Gandharvanagara (present Ganagapur), by choosing the place for HIS actions.

The name 'Sarasvathi' is very significant. River Sarasvathi is 'antarvahini' (flowing beneath the earth's surface). So Śrī Guru is a preaching Power, a perennial stream of teaching. His' is the voice of Truth. He illumines our minds and installs Supreme truth and inner wisdom in us. - Chapter 14, Charithramrutham.

ŚrīGuru is an eternal Preaching Power. Though Śrī Guru's Charithra details on HIS many sports of a worldly nature, they all have deeper meanings significantly.

"I will remain in Gandharvapura in the form of Narasimha Sarasvathi just as I am in Pithikapuram. I will seek Bhiksha in Gandharvapura exactly during midday. These will be clearly witnessed by those with yogic insight." - Śrīpāda Vallabha

Śrī Swami Samartha

After concealing My physical manifestation as ŚrīPāda Vallabha I will manifest in the Name of Narasimha Saraswathi and remain in that avathar for 80 years. Later I will remain in 'Tapo Samadhi' in 'kadalivanam' for three hundred years and manifest in 'prajna puram' as Swami Samartha. - Śrīpāda Vallabha, Chapter 6, Chartihamrth.

With this statement from Śrīpāda Vallabha, Swami Samartha Maharaj of Akkalkot is considered as the 3rd complete manifestation of Lord Datta. Swami Samarth appeared with a grand intent. His avathar was significant; clad in just a 'coupin', HE taught the highest truth by HIS actions. Maharaj had declared that His purpose was to lead His men towards the highest objective of realizing Advaitha.

Henceforth see ME at Shirdi - Maharaj had announced to several of HIS men, before discarding His physical body. Innumerable were the devotees who experienced the identity of Oneness in the two manifestations, of Shirdi Baba and Akkalkot Maharaj.

Śrī Sainath

I will remain incognito in the body of Narasimha Sarasvathi in Kadali Vana for 300 years in yoga Samadhi. Then I will appear as Swami Samartha in Pragnapura. When the time comes for leaving My mortal body, I will incarnate into You Who would be in the form of Sainath. I will announce unequivocally that My incarnation is within You."My paripoorana avatar as 'Samartha Sadguru' (incarnation), in the Name of Sainath, in the garb of a Fakeer will take place in Dheesila Nagaram. Dheesila Nagaram (Seeladhi Nagaram) will become a Siddha Kshetra in course of time.

As the timeline demanded for it, Dattatreya appeared in the garb of a Fakir at Shirdi. HIS ways were not much different from Swami Samarth. In both incarnations, HE appeared simple, barely clad and remained an epitome of humility and unbound love, despite the stern and strict talk on a grosser level.

Baba's presence is more evident now, than ever. His active ways of leading His men from darkness to Light, is beyond logical understanding. HE is that wisdom which has always been present - which contains the knowledge of eternity and the Source!

Śrī Manik Prabhu

As Śrīpāda had stated that HE instilled HIS atma Linga in a manikya hara Who emerged as Manik Prabhu, was in the timeline between Narasimha Saraswathi and Swami Samartha. The sacred place where HE appeared became Manikya Nagar.

Śrī Gajanan Maharaj

With the Ganesha amsa from My incarnation, Samardha Ramdas will manifest again bearing the Name, Gajanan Maharaj in 'Shiva Gaon' and become an 'avadhoota'. - Śrīpāda Vallabha.

Further sanctifying the sacred town of Shiva Gaon, Samarth Ramadas Himself arrived as Gajanan Maharaj.
